He didn’t have it easy. It was difficult to inspire awe with this new hotel, when just months before opening the phenomena Gran Domine arrived to the very same street. If Mariscal suspended his own project and those of others, the fashion designer Toni Miró had to rely on discretion barrowed from Zen inspiration. Minimalist, functional, impeccable and contemporary, this is a hotel boutique of the new Bilbao. Too little? Who expected more? The rooms on all six floors of the buildings display uncompromising firmness before any possibility of excesses. The architect Carmen Abad and the interior designer Pilar Líbano facilitated the project. The chester stools in the living room-library and the chair at the entryway are some of the elements that jump out from the neutrality. The light penetrates the floor plan, while illuminating the mural photographs hanging at the end of the hallways. The rooms are dominated by a high-tech theme and provide: flat LCD screen television, DVD player, high-speed Internet connection, white leather chair, square sink bowl… The bathrooms, with their black marble showers have windows covered by velvet curtains that look out upon the Guggenheim and the Bilbao River.
