Description

Along the main access street to the historical grounds, this hotel was born in 1815 as one smith shop among the many that offer the signature damascene steel swords of Toledo’s Jewish quarter. It is thus situated very close to the Zocodover Plaza and two emblematic monuments: Puerta del Sol and the Cristo de la Luz Mosque. Aside from the traffic noises, the hotel’s interior is pleasing, particularly the decoration which is modern and elegant, with an almost theatrical touch. Airs of minimalism marry well with traditional elements of the local architecture, including roof beams, wooden craftworks and the bare brick. There are also tapestries with hues of orange and blue. Each room is different: some with balcony, and others with slopping ceilings.

Our Critic review

THE WORST:

Its location on the street. Some noise is inevitable.

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

In the attic, the roof beams painted blue turns out to be quite striking, with a bathroom that has yellow tiles and a modern stainless steel basin. Number 36 has a loft where Icíar Bollaín stayed during the filming of movie “Take My Eyes (Te doy mis ojos)”. The suite, an old pigeon house, is sheltered with rounded rafters.

ROOMS WITH VIEWS:

Its location on the street. Some noise is inevitable.

EATING:

La Abadía (San Nicolás Plaza, 3. Tel. 925250746. Daily menu: up to 18 €). Imaginative cuisine. Adolfo (La Granada, 6. Tel. 925 22 73 21. Daily menu: over 30 €). A classic in the city, a cuisine with a high level that combines creative gastronomy with traditional recipes. Dishes elaborated with seasonal game are recommended. Quality wines.

SURROUNDINGS:

Toledo is a first stop before visiting various essential routes throughout the province to see: craftworks, castles, small salty lakes, and of course, the Trail of Cervantes. Almonacid de Toledo, Mascaraque, Mora, castle in Peñas Negras, Consuegra, Madridejos, Camuñas and its singular Corpus Christi, El Toboso with Dulcinea´s house, Quintanar de la Orden and its famous 15th century Renaissance complex, Villa de Don Fadrique, Tembleque with its splendid Plaza Mayor, Esquivias and its House of Cervantes, and it was in this town where he married Catalina de Salazar y Palacios. From this city extends the entire landscape of Manchego, the place Don Quijote´s adventures. And if you don´t want to leave the city, Toledo certainly has plenty of history, culture and museums: Sefardí, House of El Greco, the Alcázar ...

ACTIVITIES:

Nocturnal theatrical visits of the historic center. Hiking, golf and horseback ridding. The Trail of Don Quijote.

Hotel recommendations

The hotel opened in January of 2003 after a careful renovation of an old building constructed in 1815. It is tucked in the historic center of the city, next to the Puerta de Sol and the Cristo de la Luz Mosque, and just a few steps from the Zocodover Plaza, the nerve center of Toledo.

Very easy to access, the hotel is a modern and functional establishment where the every last detail has been looked after to ensure our comfort.

Here, every bedroom is different from the rest. Rooms with peaked roofs, ceilings conserving the original architecture, exposed brick walls, wooden rafters. Each one has its own personality; like in a city, where all houses, different from the rest, help to create a unique whole.

With privileged views, centric location and a singular construction, this hotel is sure to become the ideal place for enjoying this magnificent city.
