Description

A long and lovely road leads to this 15th century country estate. Six kilometers of forest trail, on a 100-hectare forested property with olives gorves and hunting grounds, along the banks of the Tastavins River in the region of Matarraña. It was a true find for Piers Dutton and Jemma Markham, two Brits who had decided one good day to end their stage as directors of the Turner bookstore in Madrid and restore this sanctuary amid trees and the free play of the foxes, wild boars and Hispanic goats. Inspired in British country homes, this inn displays a gorgeously elegant rustic style, free of floral ostentations and obvious interior exercises. The bedrooms, each furnished with a distinct look and ambiance, enclose a balsamic dream, without schedules. That’s not even mentioning th dinners. Just savior and dream after. It is accredited, as if necessary, under the distinguished name of Relais & Châteaux of Spain.

THE WORST:

The constricting bathrooms of the double rooms.

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

Suite La Torre, for its little living room equipped with a fireplace and DVD; any of the Junior Suites, all with double sinks and spacious rooms and lounges.

EATING:

At the hotel. Their kitchen is a daily Eucharist of vegetables and oils prepared in house. Nobody for no reason should pass up the breakfast, prepared they way nature intended, in the improvised breakfast room.

Fuentespalda, San Salvador parish church, 16th century; Consistorio, 16th century; La Torreta, old jail (6 km). Peñarroya de Tastavins, Calatrava order (12 km). Valderrobres, quiant town (13 km). Beceite, hermitage, natural park of El Parrizal, on the banks of Matarraña (19 km). Calaceite, Iberian ruins, parish church (35 km).
