Description

This 16th century ancestral estate has a sandy-red façade and interiors that reveal a colonial minimalism. Pepe Moriana, with the help of four local architects, has carried out the renovation of the hotel, protecting its original tea wood balconies, handmade finishes and the interior patio complete with a fountain. The baroque style of the island is manifested in the lookout tower inspired in Mudejar architecture, now a covered roof deck offering relaxing chairs of natural fibers and views of the town Garachico and the sea beyond. The common spaces present a rustic and distinctive essence. Modern details include halogen lamps on wooden laths, latex furniture, rigid plastic lights in the bathrooms… The smokers are asked to limit their vice to the terrace that has views of the Baroque Church of Saint Ann and the City Hall. Everyone is invited to use the sauna and hydro massage bath, an undoubtedly healthier option.

Our Critic review

THE WORST:

Lunch is better than the breakfast that is a rather skimpy buffet. Both are served upon prior reservation, which could occasion a little setback. Likewise, it may be of an inconvenience to some that there are no dinners served in the hotel, however an excellent staff takes care of reserving tables at the best restaurants on the island.

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

Any of them. Aromas of hard wood and embalmed with indirect lighting. All equipped with music and CD player, each room has its own personality in accord with the rustic and minimalist nature of the hotel: Viñátigo, Genovés, Guaydil, Tajinaste, Tabaiba, Acebiño, Bencomia, Barbusano, Canarina, Sauce, Jara, Retama, El Guincho, El Volcán, La Caleta, La Montañeta, El Lamero, Las Manchas, Los Reyes, Violeta del Teide...

ROOMS WITH VIEWS:

Lunch is better than the breakfast that is a rather skimpy buffet. Both are served upon prior reservation, which could occasion a little setback. Likewise, it may be of an inconvenience to some that there are no dinners served in the hotel, however an excellent staff takes care of reserving tables at the best restaurants on the island.

EATING:

The best restaurant in town is the La Perla, highly praised for their fresh fish and traditionally casual style. It is not in vain that the owner is the president of the Fisherman’s Association of Garachico.

SURROUNDINGS:

Saint Michael Castle, Churches of Saint Ann and Saint Francis Santa Ana y San Francisco and the Convent of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. Beach and natural swimming hole of El Caletón.

ACTIVITIES:

The hotel organizes excursions to go swimming in the ocean at Masca, hiking in Teno Alto, visits to heart of the laurels in Erjos, walking and biking trails, nocturnal strolls to contemplate the firmament… There are many possible adventures to be had. And if you enjoy shopping, Canaries offers handcrafts, embroidered textiles, honey, homemade liquors and wines. The hotel store offers a sampling of typical goods made on the island.

Hotel recommendations

A natural way of living...

Once the country estate of the Marquises of the Quinta Roja, this century building is now the Rural Hotel La Quinta Roja. A matchless example of baroque architecture on the island, the hotel is located in the historic Garachico Village and Port, beside the old Saint Francis Convent, House of the Counts of Gomera, Town Hall and Church of Saint Ann.
Combining the rural style of the building with a modern and minimalist touch, the hotel offers: 20 comfortable rooms, a convention room, bar and café with around the clock service, Restaurant El Alpendre, Tasca del Vino (Wine Bar), craft store, a central patio typical of Canaries with the original fountain, a covered roof deck with views for reading and resting, mountain bikes, a small spa with sauna, jacuzzi and solarium.
The staff at the hotel is specialized in the patrimony of the Lower Island and organizes tours of the area: Masca, Teno Alto-Bajo, Bolico, Bosque del Agua, Erjos...
The hotel is sited just 100 meters from the beach, docks and natural swimming holes of Caletón, formed by volcanic molten rock in 1706.
