Description

There is an interesting story behind this inn of the new millennium. Around 1913, María Saludes, who owned the last little house in village of El Morell, realized that its location at crossroads between Reus, Tarragona and Valls had commercial potential. With the help of her husband, Isidro Palau, she decided to open up a restaurant. And right off they graveled to roads leading to their home to attract merchants, farmers and other travelers in horse drawn wagons. Decades later, four generations to be precise, her humble home has been transformed into a refined and demotic rural inn that upholds its original essence. It has now become a gastronomic hotel of some renown, contributing the so-called culinary revolution. The family has abided to a profound and fond appreciation for cooking, using locally harvested goods, for almost one-hounded years. Baby squid and calcots, monkfish with crunchy feet… are just some of the many delicacies of the new Catalonian cuisine (not so new now) prepared by the distinguished gourmet chef Gerson Ribal. To complement with their splendid work in the kitchen, the bedrooms haven’t had to anything more than fallow the example. The first floor of the house is occupied by the owners of this ancestral home; the guests all room on the second floor; while the attic on the third floor is used for storing and drying fruits. On each level, rooms are simply named after what they are used for: L’habitació de l’amo, El comerciant, Les avellanes... The Ribal family, connecting days long past to contemporary times.
