Plaza Cañerías s/n 42156 Molinos de Duero /Soria (Castilla y León|Spain)
Perhaps Machado himself would have wanted to be another guest at this inn had it existed in his time. Much of his literary Soria is written here, at the foot of the Urbión mountain range, under the breathtaking Laguna Negra. And it is read under the vigor of its walls, loaded to the brim with romantic ink. It becomes a hotel once you go through the doors. Once you go through the doors, it becomes a hotel, and when you look behind, you see the trail that sheep have stepped upon for centuries. The spectacular hallway, the tapered kitchen, the light patio… The house has a blazoned façade from 1729 and solid fitted stone walls. The owners have modernized the interiors without losing ethnographic intention. Thus, several contemporary art works harmonize with verses by Gerardo Diego, Bécquer and Machado evocated on the walls. The handcrafted wrought iron and the pieces by acclaimed designers (cypress tree lamps by Pepe Sans, leather chairs by Bonet…) reinterpret the rustic sobriety in the furniture, whereas careful lighting intensifies the lyricism. There is no room for boredom - French and American billiards, a glazed bar, an exhibition gallery - or for unease: there is a video camera watching upon the children’s game room. And at the table, the black gold of the land: truffles.
It is a pity that the inn only opens on weekends and bank holidays. The solitary traveler’s heart is broken when he is forced to pass his Mondays in the sun.
