This is classic countryside of the Alentejo: a stout farmhouse surrounded by thick and commanding tree trunks. Even though the environs are profoundly rural, Herdade da Matinha is neighbor to the splendid Vicentina Coast. During part of the year Monica, the owner, works as a tour guide and she helpful when it comes to planning outings. Alfredo, the other owner, is the man of the paintings and the cuisine. He prepares the meals while visiting with the guests, as Portuguese baroque music plays in the background. His paintings give life and color the spacious, comfortable and very luminous sitting room. Beyond, there is a terrace and garden with citrus groves, which is a nice place to dine on hot summer days. The bedrooms are functional spaces with tile floors and more of Alfredo´s paintings, creating an appealing mix between traditional and contemporary elements. Guests receive utmost care from the multilingual hosts.
