Description

Nothing better than the walls of a medieval city in order to protect the architectural footprints of the past and transform them into temples of rest. Intact and silent. We were a few kilometers away from Fátima, the historic village of the miracle that attracts thousand of Christian pilgrims from around the world. Here, in Ourem, a little village right on the bank of the river Seiça, peering over its valley, we are received by the white brilliance of a cluster of medieval houses. If our memory was anesthetized we could think that, why not, we were in a small Andalusian town. Whitewashed walls, grilled windows, fitted stone walls, Arabic tile roofing and plants lining a staircase that leads to… the miracle? For now to contrast. The interior design here responds to current functionalism, discrete and pleasant, animated by touches of color and several contemporary canvases. Bright white walls, clay floors and wooden furniture dress the bedrooms that are well-equipped.

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

Those having balconies looking over the valley. They all have nice details such as the wooden bench to leave your suitcase or luggage on.

EATING:

In the restaurant at the pousada, an example of local gastronomy, half way between the sea and the fields.

SURROUNDINGS:

In Ourém: the 12th century medieval castle, remodeled in the 15th century; Colegiada da Nossa Senhora da Misericordia church, rebuilt after an earthquake that hardly left anything of the primitive crypt, from 1445.
Fátima sanctuary (12 km). Cristo Convent, in Tomar (12 km). Castelo de Bode dam (20 km). Monasterio de Batalha (25 km).
