24 de Janeiro 7 7330-122 Marvão /Portalegre (Alentejo|Portugal)
If you start daydreaming on your way here, you could be victim of geographic anachronism, but the truth is that we are 12 km away from the frontier with Spain and this village, despite having many little white houses and flowerpots at every window on the sides of its narrow alleys, is not Andalusia, but Portalegre, and specifically the village of Marvao. And this is the scene of a veteran pousada, dressed up as a 17th century farmhouse and the object of all kinds of reforms during its six decades of life. It is not really one house but three – including the old sacristan’s house - joined by a long corridor. You can feel the warmth of the granite chimney in its halls and in front of the dining hall windows, guarding the neighboring rooftops. The bedrooms promise sweet dreams under extremely high ceilings, with bare walls and turn of the century Portuguese beds.
