Plaza de San Benito s/n 36780 A Guarda/La Guardia /Pontevedra (Galicia|Spain)
Founded in 1561 by the Ozores de Sotomayor, this convent of exquisite predilection is sited next to the fishing port of A Guarda, just a few kilometers from where the Miño River opens to the sea between Galicia and Portugal. The interiors, which are as silent as such a monastery recommends, were decorated by Isabel Tapia with a homey but very elegant style, featuring cotton pattern screens, curtains, and upholstery. Delicious in the summer, the intimate interior patio invites guests to breath in the humid air of the Atlantic Sea. A recently habilitated little reading room next to the porch houses a library with some 1,600 to 1,800 thousand volumes. Next to the reception desk stands a 17th-century sculpture of Saint Benedict. And perhaps the most curious feature here is the revolving window at the entrance, from which nuns dispatched the sweets they cooked, while remaining unseen by customers.

This structure was inaugurated as hotel in 1990, after having undergone a restoration that preserved the noble character of this building that respires a profound peace and serenity, now with the comfort and provisions of the most modern of hotel complexes.
The hotel as a noteworthy unique geographic location along the coast of the Rías Bajas and right in the heart of the fishing port in the town of La Guardia, a place famous for its Celtic settlements in the Santa Tecla Mountain and its views of the estuary.
With beautiful panoramas of the sea, and just minutes from the best beaches of the Bajo Miño, fifteen minutes from the dunes of northern Portugal, and twenty from those in Baiona, make this hotel a privileged place to relax.
