Description

In the cradle of the Christian peninsula, the mythic and traditional Galicia once inhabited by witches and pilgrims has witnessed the birth of a stunning establishment amid the misty landscape. The hotel chain Paradores de Turismo arrived to this Benedictine monastery sited in the Ribeira Sacra, where the Sil and Miño rivers meet. Considered an artistic and historic monument since 1923, it is believed to have been founded by Martiño de Dumio in the 6th and 7th centuries, although reliable documentation dates to the 10th century. A church of monumental vocation and three cloisters of great beauty speak for themselves. An elegant and bold integration of new elements services the original creation, such as a protective cover over the galleries in one of the cloisters. The interior design uses illumination to emphasise the vanguard furniture by Elian Gray to Mies van der Rohe, Harry Bertola and Frank O. Gehry, as well as artworks by Tàpies and Chillida. The personalized bedrooms, in shades of copper and eggplant, are divided by polished cement structures; these release the formal look of fitted stone walls and minimalist beds. Chestnut wood fixtures and steel elements are combined throughout the hotel, blending the inedited and the remote. The Dos Abades Restaurant receives guests in a dinning room that is covered by a dome 14 meters high, which offers views of the mystic nature from the terraces and windows over 12 meters tall... the colossal characteristic of the most attractive historic inn in Spain.
