Description

Country home with the marks of time tucked into a spot in the Valle del Baztán, an immense indentation along the green skirts of the Pyrenees in Navarro. After the modern restoration of this building with 17th century foundations, renewed a century later, the combination of stone and dark wood remains on the interiors and exteriors. This union of past and present is an evocation of the celebrated Pedro de Ursúa, conqueror and martyr of the search for El Dorado, illustrious son of these lands. This countryside with meadows and gardens encloses this Ikazatea residency, with its honored traditions –not without a fine façade- and new and greatly appreciated features –updated technology in the bedrooms and a small spa, equipped with saunas, showers and jacuzzi. Lounge areas with a rustic tone and intense chromatic highlights are warm and cozy. 19 rooms with white walls and magenta carpeting. Sloped ceilings in some rooms reveal nerved rafters, like wooden backbone extending from the roof’s center. A charming spot: the glassed in terrace, ideal for breakfast or diner or sipping a drink.

Hotel recommendations

In the majestic Valle del Baztán, surrounded by splendid oak forests, meadows, orchards and gardens, stands this handsome country home build in the 17th century and expanded in the 18th century. Near the Ursúa family palace, home of mythic conqueror Pedro de Ursúa who saw his death in the hands of Lope de Aguirre, during the expedition to El Dorado in the lands of the New World. The restoration has conserved the distinguishing features of the original construction, the stone and wood structures that give personality and character to the hotel. The English style decoration gives the finishing touches to this splendid complex. And so that the spirit admires what the body enjoys, the hotel offers modern spa installations with humid sauna, dry sauna, hydro message jacuzzi, as well as hot, cold and high-pressure showers.
