The chain Hospes has recovered this classic building in the capital city of Mallorca and converted it into one of the best hotels on the island, just meters from Palacio de Marivent. Sea and sky blend together here, as do the art deco spirit of the building and the refined minimalism of its interior spaces, the work of the Hospes Design Team headed by the architect Xavier Claramunt. Space and light are the two stars of the interior spaces featuring deep colored wengue woods, leather chairs, stark white linens and paintings by Axel Oliveras and Fernando Nieva. Claremont leaves his signature style in the bathrooms as well, which boast spectacular glass fixtures, bathtubs of a classic cut and elegant accessories. The sitting rooms are equipped with the latest technology and select library. From the exterior areas, outlined in teka wood and stone, it’s practically inevitable to become engrossed in the sunset beside the pool whose limits are lost in the bay. Hospes Maricel will temporarily close from December 20, 2006 to February 20, 2007.

The unfortunate views from the back and the sides of the hotel, due to the unattractive skyscrapers that sacrifice the beauty of Illetas, on the coast of Calvià.
All look to the sea, luminous and decorated with serious, refined and sensual minimalism. The details are all in place, flowers on the tables and shelves in the bathrooms. Some of the furnishings have been designed in noble woods exclusively for the hotel by Chús Asiaín. The atmosphere is immaculate.

The hotel restaurant, which offers the possibility of private dinners in the fresh air. Or at Tristán Restaurant (Local 1, Puerto Deportivo de Portals Nous. Tel. 971 67 55 47. Menu: over 30 euros). Gourmet cooking not exempt of bold style, offering high-quality creative recipes using Mediterranean goods, bodega and service.
Portals Nous (2 km). Palma (4 km).
Waterskiing, wakeboard, parascending, scuba diving, fishing, yacht and sailboat rentals, and there is a golf club just a kilometer from the hotel.
No other name is more telling of this establishment than Maricel, which refers to the magnificent view of this hotel where sea (mar) and sky (cielo) come together.
Sited in a unique location between Marivent and Portals Nous, just five minutes from the center of Palma, the history of the establishment began 40 years ago when the businessman Victorio Luzuriaga decided to turn this old palace into a hotel with a defined cosmopolitan flair, attracting a prestigious international public. Having remained closed for almost 14 years and then extensively restored, the chain Hospes reopened the doors of Maricel.
Under the direction of architect Xavier Claramut, the hotel has undergone many changes, while maintaining the historic singularity of the building. Quality and comfort are to be found in each of the 29 rooms. They recover the glamour of the era when the building was constructed, while at the same time they provide new technological innovations like panoramic televisions, DVD, cable and Internet. The decoration employs noble materials.
Likewise, the bathrooms fallow a functional and contemporary conception in truly luxurious space with an art deco style and inviting feel. The renovation of the bathrooms as well as the bedrooms has focused on three fundamental aspects: the comfort, space and lighting. And it is the light and the sea that are so present in every niche of the building.
The blue tones of the Mediterranean Sea can be appreciated with all clarity from gardens surrounding Maricel. These spaces communicate a vital necessity to relax, independent of whether visitors have come for work or play. Few things are as pleasurable as contemplating the sea from the terrace or to taking a swim in the pool, which is practically an extension of the ocean, blending into the sea on the horzion.
The Mediterranean character is present in all the installations and services at Maricel, and of course the cuisine upholds the same standard. The gastronomy recuperates the prime materials of the island and contemplates them in their menu.
The establishment has a library and two meeting rooms that can seat 40 people. There is also a dock, and the hotel also offers their guests transportation between the hotel and airport by way of the sea.
