Privileged views of the Retiro Park and the Botanical Garden are enjoy by the guests from the terraces of this centric hotel that is every bit of a classic in Madrid, Designed by the architect Chueca Goitia and later acquired by the Catalonian group Derby Hotels in 1996, the hotel interiors house an ancient art collection comprised of 80 roman mosaics from the third century, 12 vases from the third century, and a natural sized Roman statue dating back to the first century. These pieces belong to the businessman and Egyptologist, Jordi Clos, founder of the Egyptian Museum of Barcelona.
The bedchambers with independent sitting rooms enclose 19th century furniture, French textiles, Carrara marble and Swiss floorboards. The common spaces are very agreeable, above all the English bar, the library and the reading room used exclusively by the guests.
