Description

One step more in the expansion of the chain Habitat, between Catalonia and Madrid: 2005 saw the opening of a new establishment in the heart of Madrid’s Gran Via, occupying classic building constructed in 1917 that is declared Patrimony of the Community of Madrid. This is a recommended spot for living up the frenzy of the bubbling city center and for retreating to shelter of a good book; the hotel lures visitors attracted to culture. It’s not gratuitous that the famed Castilian literature neighborhood is just a few blocks away. Inherited mosaics, woodwork, stairways and other original features of this building have been introduced with a contemporary flare by the interior designer, Virginia Figueras. Installations include a Spa and various conference rooms with top-notch business accessories and technologies. Bedrooms are personalized with quotations by writers and poets inscribed on the walls, and exhibit a collection of advanced televisions, music equipment, WiFi connection, a menu of books and disks, personal bar, and courtesy daily newspaper. The duplexes enjoy a solarium and jacuzzi, while the suites are sited in each of the three domed towers, with the roadway at its feet, boiling with traffic and crowds. Since the H in hotel is not understood without the R in restaurant, the hotel’s DL´s restaurant is informal or elegant and agreeable. To finish off the soiree, there’s a summer bar-lounge and terrace on the rooftop. Does pollution rise that high?

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

The bedrooms on the top floor, such as numbers 610 and 606, boast their own terrace and hot jacuzzi. The attic offers a great sunny terrace with teka wood flooring and lawn chairs to relax and enjoy the views over the rooftops of Madrid, even the Mountains in the distance can be seen. Also the bedrooms in the towers stand out for their incredible views.

EATING:

DL´s Restaurant, the hotel’s modern dinning room, is the success of Ernesto Hinojal. A convincing menu, in miniature format when opting for more informal meals.
