Description

The building has been used as a hotel just since 2004, though its exterior features suggest all the classic aspects a small palace from 1908 has to offer. In front of the popular park that gives the hotel its name, it soaks in the city’s Triangle of Art, formed by the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofía. Inside, Lorenzo Marqués was in charge of the decoration in which contrasting elements coexist. Tradition tinged decor is manifested in fountains covered with 19th century ceramic tiles, Maumejean stained-glass windows, wrought iron lamps, marble floors and fireplaces, frescos in the bedchambers, carpets covering the stairways, an old iron elevator and the mahogany paneled library. Combined with this respect for the historical elements of the building that has been declared National Patrimony, is a sober and technological minimalist treatment. Carved marble and wood versus fitness center, spa, flat screens, wi-fi and vanguard art. Julio Romero de Torres versus Roy Lichtenstein. Not bad at all. Better yet, the signature Índice Restaurant.

Our Critic review

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

Some of the suites or any of the rooms on the third floor, which was once the nobility’s quarters. The so called Bishop’s Room is a suite with one hounded square feel, looking out on Montealbán Street.

EATING:

Indice Restaurant, with the young David Herranz as head chef. Mediterranean cuisine, creative and modern.
