This oasis located in the middle of the capital of Madeira has been in existence for over five years now. The gardens, impregnated with banana and palm trees, bougainvilleas and grass lawns that give off an aroma of fennel, funcho in Portuguese, which is where the city of Funchal receives its name. At the center, an immaculate pool with a bar and adequate showers. The bedchambers along the backside, well illuminated and generous in size, are the most requested. But for those with the means (indeed many recognizable faces pass through the hotel), the suites with their Persian rugs, walnut furniture and antiques are very tempting. The original house is a serene refuge, complete with decorative arts that is hard to match; while the annexed buildings reveal exquisiteness and comfort in equal parts.
