Avenida Islas Canarias s/n 35509 Costa Teguise /Lanzarote (Canary Islands|Spain)
A real trousseau of a landscape in Lanzarote, inmortalized by artist César Manrique for the hotel chain Sol-Meliá. The project was carried out together with architect Fernando Higueras, who was granted the International Architecture Award in 1979. The building climbs up along four stories with terraces that boast views of the sea and the gardens, which were integrally remodeled in 1998 by architect Álvaro Sans, who designed the ten new luxury Garden Villas, each of which are appointed with a private pool. Only the villas can contest the first impression of this hotel, that of a slightly outdated establishment with its small standard bedrooms without desks, and synthetic flooring on the terraces with the same window boxes and hammocks of old. Would you like to visit this hotel, bit by bit? Fernando Gallardo will join you.

The true essence of this hotel, which is imitated by almost all the vocational resorts, is somewhat pastiche. Above all for those who have a certain aversion to the honeymoon atmosphere.
As stated, the best option isn’t the bedrooms but the villas, which have their own pools, a dinning area for private brunches, 500 meters of gardens and exclusive privileges in the restaurant, spa, check in-check out, among other services.

For those who resist from dining at the hotel with their five restaurants to choose from, Mesón La Jordana (Centro Comercial Lanzarote Bay. Tel. 928 59 03 28) offers typical local recipes, and Neptuno Restaurant (Avenue Del Jalbillo, Centro Comercial Neptuno, local 6. Tel. 928 59 03 78) serves good fresh fish and meat dishes.
Teguise was the capital of Lanzarote from the 15th century until 1852, for which reason it safeguards one of the most important architectural zones of the Canary archipelago. Some suggestions: Castle of Santa Bárbara and Convent of San Francisco, both built in the 16th century; Palace of Spinola, 18th century; Parish Church of Guadalupe, the oldest on the island. And the beaches: Beach of the Charcos, frequented by windsurfers; and Beach of Bastián, which is ideal for children because it is protected from the wind and easy to get to.
A lively street market takes over the streets of Teguise every Sunday. Likewise each afternoon there are curious jewelry stands in the Plaza Pueblo Marinero de Costa Teguise. In Teguise there are also cheese stores like those in El Faro.
To have a drink: Wild Thistle Scottish bar (local 47, Teguise Beach).
More sporty visitors will be pleased to know that Costa Teguise the meeting point for nautical recreation enthusiasts: surf, windsurf, scuba diving… There is also a golf club, and the European Padel School for children and adults. Other options: Canary Trekking Club (Avenue de las Palmeras, 24) or Sport Away Lanzarote, offering courses for all levels.
