Description

Right in the heart of the Pyranese of Aragon, stands this stone construction, lined with slate and wooden galleries on all four levels, up to the top loft floor. Manolo and Elena Claver manage this hotel that encloses a rustic mountain interior style. Off the foyer there is a spacious living room with large windows, chairs of all colors, styles and sizes, and an olden copper fireplace. In front there is a café reserved exclusively for guests with charming porcelain plates hanging along the walls. The rooms, all with views, reveal papered walls, wooden ceilings and handcrafted headboards. For nothing in the world should guests miss out on the natural thermal baths and the health zone sited in an underground room.

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

Rooms 302, 202 and 102 are more spacious. Number 302 is very enticing, as are the other loft rooms on the third floor.

EATING:

La Tosquera (Urb. Formigal, in the Peñablanca building, Formigal. Tel: 974 49 03 51. Menu: between 20 and 30 euros). A pleasant place located at the ski slopes, which serves abundant, traditional, home-style dishes.

SURROUNDINGS:

Pre-Romanic 11th-century church in Sallent de Gállego. Trail of mozarab churches of Serrablo. Spa at Panticosa. Escarrilla, Tramacastilla, Bisecas. Ordesa. In Huesca: Pedagogy Museum, an interesting place to discover secrets and mysteries of Spain. In France: Artouste, Gabas, Laruns, Pau, Lourdes.

ACTIVITIES:

In the winter, the principal attractions are the ski slopes at Formigal and Panticosa-Los Lagos. In the summer, the mountains are inviting places for hiking, biking and rock climbing in ravines like Gorgol. And the music festival Pirineos Sur is held at the Lanuza Reservoir.
