Description

A five-star recompense, after 20 years of bleak closure and four years of strenuous renovations. This is what the hotel chain AC has created from the 19th century palace standing along the centric Gran Vía de Colón, the convent of San Jerónimo de Santa Paula built around 1513, and a cluster of adjoining Moorish houses that date even further back. With Lorenzo Marqués de la Riva leading a team of architects and Gemma Cornejo in charge of the interior design, the feel of Granada is impregnated in every step, in every glace. The Granada of the bourgeois, of the Christian Reconquest and of the Nazari too, all mingle throughout this intelligently restored and complex adaptation, which incorporates the consistent design of the AC line. Geometric lines and minimalist style with a splash of 21st century reminiscences in the entrance; a renaissance cloister is now the site of Juan Andrés Rodríguez´s restaurant; the chapel and the chorus as well are used as conference rooms; peering over the patio, 100 square meters of boarding converted into the Bishop Suite. There is divine silence throughout the bedchambers, super-perfect in all their services and details. Rooms in the Arab quarters circle around a patio with caliph capitals and are especially solicited for their intimacy and authenticity.

After this aperitif, enjoy Fernando Gallardo’s review.
