Avenida Amigos de los Castillos 3 16214 Alarcón /Cuenca (Castilla-La Mancha|Spain)
A hotel within the walls of a 12-century Arab fortress atop a hill boarding the Júcar lowlands. It was residency to the Marquees of Villena, home to Don Juan Manuel, son of a Spainish king. These very walls witnessed conspiracies and uprisings against the crown, centuries of history, and a lot of work during the 8 months of thorough rehabilitation and redecoration. Working at a fast pace, Ana Isabel Merino transformed the server towers and walls by introducing a contemporary style fitting for artworks by Tapies, Redondela and Sempere among other artists. There is a place for the prints by Manolo Valdés in the bar and cafeteria, presided by oranges and blood red, colors featured in the restaurant and the bedrooms too. There is nothing to object and much to praise in the magnificent suites full of character, with its exposed brick dome, fashionable sink and bath, intense passion red in the tall old canopy bed. Go on, discover the rest of the bedrooms, look through out across the Manchegan lands and gloat over their culinary creations. All in Fernando Gallardo´s review.
