Description
Standing alone, the quite city of the caliphs lays to the foot of this inn. This mountainous area of Cordoba known as El Brillante is witness to a unique starry sky coupled with city lights, and it looks as though the stars can be touched from the bedroom balconies of the hotel. Abderramán I must have known this when he had a small summer palace built in this very spot. It is said that this powerful Muslim ruler had a passage way built from the mansion to the mosque so that he could ease his soul the Andalusian way. However, his palace and empire did not outlive him by very much. And upon the ruins of his home stands this inn, which has eternalized the legendary Arab name. The interiors have found new vigor and comforts with the decoration developed by the interior design studio Beccara. The vestibule continues to be the obliged reference for the guests, with its handsome motifs barrowed from the woodlands and mosque of Cordoba. The nocturnal atmosphere here could not be more intimate or more disposed for the elation of Harún to Rachid. The majority of the conveniently equipped bedrooms look to the city, with a garden of palm trees and pool directly below. The cafeteria communicates with the garden through large glass window, from where guests may look out upon the orange groves, which separate the new sporting area from the archery targets. Those who arrive in car can park in the shade of a pine tree or in a covered area.

Cordoba-style artichoke stew at Almudaina, Campo Santo de los Mártires, 1 - Tel: 957 47 43 42. Menu: over 30 €. White gazpacho with almonds at el Parador.
SURROUNDINGS:
The Mosque, the Jewish neighborhood, the castle of the Christian Kinas. Very close to the archeological site of Medina Azahara.
