Avenida Pío XII 35 14700 Palma del Río /Córdoba (Andalusia|Spain)
Franciscan monastery built in 1492 as the nucleus of evangelization of the New World. The facility is comprised of a church, lodge, refectory, and pharmacy with patios, gardens and a cemetery for 500 monks, which very well could have served Junípero Serra, scribed Cervantes´ textes or Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba´s stores. Oil paintings, arches, light green tiles in the patio all speak for themselves. The lack of luxuries is compensated by the distinctive details: painted ceramic vases and comforters made by hade on site. On the other side, of course. Gregorian chants are heard in the dinning room. The sparrow’s call and the bell’s chime hurry the slumber to a festive awakening. The bedrooms are spacious, decorated with archways, old wood cabinets, lattice and paintings of the first Franciscan missions in America. The white and green enamel sinks recall the patient labors of the filigree of Cordoba. In 2000 an annex was added on.
