Description

Sited in front of the Sardinero Beach, where Santander´s finest hotel industries were concentrated in the early 20th century, Hotel Hoyuela looks as though it has been there for a lifetime. The building’s garden court architectural style is found immersed in the ambiance of grand old belle époque that characterizes the establishments along the Avenue of the Hotels. A stroke of elegance links this neo-classic construction to the more palatial façade of the Gran Casino; the hotel’s crystal dome, bright and translucent, stands out among the neighboring rooftops of the city. While top-level installations should not be expected here, the hotel will undoubtedly provide friendly, reliable and efficient service. Spacious and well identified, the hallways adequately distribute the different private and public areas of the hotel, without a false adornment or unnecessary object in sight. Meanwhile, the decorative proposal of the bedrooms are no less serious, featuring red carpeting, classic furniture of some quality, modern bronze lamps and a festive color scheme on the walls.

THE WORST:

The only thing that is missed is an afternoon room check to tidy up and make the beds.

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

Those that look to the sea, which are located along the facade and the lateral rooms closest to the beach that are illuminated by the neo-baroque relief of the Casino.

EATING:

Del Puerto (Hernán Cortés, 63. Tel. 942 21 30 01. Menu: over 30 euros), located right in Puerto Chico (Small Port), it has beautiful views of the bay. Gastronomy based on subtly prepared seafood using fresh quality goods. An attractive bar and homemade desserts.

The Casino which stands before another classic hotel establishment, el Sardinero, and the beach with its same name. San Roque Church, in the center of the most elegant residential zone of the city. The Cathedral of Santander. The Magdalene Palace. Maritime Museum of the Cantabria Sea. Regional Museum Prehistory and Archeology. Cabárceno Natural Park (18 km). Santillana del Mar. Altamira.

Hotel Hoyuela, recently constructed in 1995, is reminiscent of the turn-of-the-century palaces of El Sardinero. Located right in the vacation center of Santander, next to the beach and the casino, and near The Magdalene Palace that now houses the Menéndez Pelayo International University. This is a comfortable and family style hotel with 55 bedrooms and five banquet halls, making this an ideal place for celebrations and business gatherings.
