Avenida García Prieto 1 10450 Jarandilla de La Vera /Cáceres (Extremadura|Spain)
In the late 14th century this castle was built by the Counts of Oropesa, who boasted the title of Marquees of Jarandilla and belonged to the Santiago Vientos Order. Don García Álvarez of Toledo aspired to have a regal summer palace and fortress that would dominate the region of La Vera. The residency was not completed until well into the 15th century. Today, photographs of castle’s court of arms flanked by circular towers illustrates this historic monument in travel books and encyclopedias far and wide. Inspired by the building’s noble ancestry, interior designer Marta Median redecorated the entire accommodation, introducing contemporary comfort and an exquisite taste for a classic Italian style. The results set this establishment apart as one of the most elegant and refined inns in Spain. The bedrooms are conveniently equipped and decorated with restored antique furniture. The ambiance evokes a kind of privileged palatial lifestyle. The main sitting room enjoys a fireplace that was placed here for the personal comfort of Carlos I, and images of the Spanish nobility along the walls. A conference room completes the hotel installations. One of the most renowned guests to have stayed here is the Emperor Carlos, who spent several months in this very building before he retired definitively in Yuste. King Alfonso XIII during his visit to the region in the late 1920s was also a guest of honor. Figures such as these only reinforce the pedigree of this monument.
