Description

As well as being a national monument, the guest will find in this 15th century castle property of the Baron of Alvito what has been the eventual residence of several Portuguese monarchs. Its dignified façade finished with a wall and crenellated towers contrasts with the prolific interior richness in the form of gothic, Mudejar and Manueline elements. On top of these there is current interior design in very good taste, where the tapestried headboards, the red carpets and the rich patterns stand out. At night, subtle lighting embellishes the crenellated inner patio.

Our Critic review

ROOMS WE RECOMMEND:

Room 208 is very spacious and has horseshoe-shaped brick windows as well as nice stuccowork in the dome with friezes and a coat of arms.
Room 105 is also special with its iron canopies and the evocative chaise longue.

EATING:

In the pousada itself, where you can taste delicious cod baked with cumin “á Marquês de Alvito” watered down with a good red from Alentejo.

SURROUNDINGS:

In Alvito the Mother Church in the 15th century, the Misericordia church and the São Sebastião chapel are three of its places for worship. A walk around its streets in order to appreciate its white houses, embellished by stone doors wrought in the 16th and 17th centuries.

ACTIVITIES:

The pousada is a stop in one of the three itineraries for knowing the wine producing areas and the culture of the region.
