Description

Even though Barcelona has the traveler accustomed to the always-attractive blend of tradition and modernity, that doesn’t detract merit from latest experiment developed by the chain Habitat. This hotel is concealed behind the restored façade of an 18th palace right in the heart of the Gothic neighborhood, amid the lively streets and next to the tranquil plaza of San Felipe Neri. To enter this establishment is to withdraw into a relaxing atmosphere of design and lounge music, studied down to the millimeter in order to offer an innovating ambiance, while not repetitively applying the ABCs of Catalonian disseny. Around the patio, lights direct point out the limited common installations, to the left there is a little baroque sitting room with library, and at the far end is the restaurant with its minimalist bar. The bedchambers reveal a personal character in every detail: from the themes of the paintings that are different on each of the three floors, to the designer comforters, or the bed frames built into the walls. Each of the 20 rooms has a personal touch.

Poor sound proofing.

EATING:

The hotel restaurant with gourmet chef Jordi Ruiz offers Mediterranean cuisine with hints of Arab and Medieval flavors: vanilla, olive oil, cinnamon, saffron and an astounding selection of wines. The Café de L´Academia located in an 18th century building on Lledó, 1. (Tel: 933 19 82 53) serves Mediterranean dishes. Daily menu between 21 and 30 euros.
