Calle Enric Granados 83 08008 Barcelona (Catalonia|Spain)
With their most recent establishment, the hotelier chain Derby returned to their Barcelonese origins and opened a hotel in the Eixample neighborhood. It stands on 83 Enric Granados, the street named after the most ingenious piano composer of Spanish Romanticism in the 19th century. This early 20th century construction that was once occupied by the Pujol i Brull clinic, features neoclassic touches. Having undergone renovations, the hotel now assumes a sleek industrial character. The décor incorporates iron and brick elements, reflecting the aesthetic passions of the owner Jordi Clos, founder of the Egyptian Museum of Barcelona.
The lobby quite faithfully reproduces of the foyer design in Urban, a sister hotel in Madrid. The luminous reception area is flanked by two panoramic and transparent glass elevators that open on all six floors to corridors lined with bold black and white floors, uniting the bodies of the building.
The bedrooms have a certain Zen feel to them. Zebra wood, phosphatized iron plates and exposed materials give them life. The bathrooms appoint white marble. The subtle metallic texture of the desks and minibars emphasis small sculptures from India, Indonesia and Burmese that are of exceptional archeological value. And, the pieces may be touched. The suites are complete with a bed and bath on the upper level and a sitting room below; both rooms have individual entrances and are communicated with one another.
The rooftop deck is reserved for leisure time with a pool, solarium and a bar-terrace. The hotel has a cocktail bar with love seats and armchairs that transmits graceful feminine forms and colors with mother-of-pearl and methacrylate details. On the first floor, a bar and library area is accompanied by a projection of recent photographs from the fashion runways.
