Plazoleta de la Constitución 3 06800 Mérida /Badajoz (Extremadura|Spain)
This 18th-century convent located in the city center was built on the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to the Concordia of Augusto. The whitewashed structure, which has been used as a church, hospital and jail, still conserves Mudejar and Visigothic and Roman architectural elements. Fully equipped bedrooms are a bit snug, and some rooms show ware along the walls and ceilings. The bathrooms, however, are quite roomy; these are lined with ceramic tile floors, rose stucco walls and are complete with massage shower heads. Bedroom terraces offer fine views of the urban landscape. Upon entering, guests will find an enchanting Andalusian patio designed by Juan de Herrera that features Mudejar columns, Corinthian capitals and Roman ceramics. The establishment’s Mozoarab gardens also deserve special note. In so far as the common rooms, the bar is the most suggestive area, but there is also a handsome living room that occupies the old convent chapel.
