This monastery, built in 1512 by the barefoot Franciscan monks, stands on a cliff overlooking the Sierra de Salvatierra, three kilometers from Barcarrota and seven from Almendral. It is owned by the actor and former director of Merida´s theater festival, Carlos Tristancho, and his wife, Lucía Dominguín, who is Miguel Bosé´s sister. They are both are experts in the noble art of being hosts. Some of the rooms, carved from the rock upon which this monastery sands, allow rays of sunlight enter through the roof come morning. If you would like to know which they are, look at what our hotel critic, Fernando Gallardo, has to say.

La Roca (The Rock) is carved from the monastery foundations, and in the morning the sun slowly enters over the head of the bed. The Oratory conserves an original 16th-century fresco. The Hospital of Words was the Franciscan library. Blue Sky, its name says it all. The bathrooms are decorated with earth tones and tiles and offer handcrafted natural treatments. The shower shakes of the drowy morning feel with a strong flow of water brought in from the mountains. Natural essences and a certain bohemian touch.

At the hotel, two young Basque chefs offer pleasurable breakfasts with a nice menu to choose from: homemade pastries, Iberian ham, fresh orange juice and a variety of coffees from all over the world.
