Carretera de Carboneras 20 04149 Agua Amarga /Almería (Andalusia|Spain)
Just like being at home. The hotel’s name is not misleading in the least. Located in a small fishing community with a beautiful beach and tranquil ambiance, Mikasa is one of the charming hotels with more presence in the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. Manuel Lezcano de Orleans and american Lidia Griffith, the owners, set up this hotel in 1993. Drawing from their own experience as travelers, they have attained a level of hospitality desired by those who venture across the region’s desert lands like in the westerns. From the dry exterior surroundings, a little oasis of a garden flourishes around the whitewashed buildings of this hotel, which has three pools, one being a hydro-message pool. The comfortable rooms, decorated with personality and paintings by Ana Cuartero, are named after far way paradises that the owners once experienced: Cala Ermita, Baracoa, Aruba, Malibú, Calarena, Cadaqués... In another building across the street, next to the tennis court, there are two rooms more rooms and a spa equipped with: a meso-therapy room, steam bath, message tables, gym and the hydro-message pool. The owners take silence very seriously; so much so, they don’t even have a telephone. Breakfasts are served here like nowhere else, the buffet as enticing as it is flavorful, with homemade exquisites that reward the early risers.

The spa is a little dark. Dinner reservations must be made before 19.30 hours and guests are not allowed to invite visitors over, something that may come across as peculiar for some.
All of the rooms display a refined decoration and ambiance. Cadaqués is the name of the room reminiscent of Dalí with its carmine reds and wrought iron bed. Baracoa, the birthplace of Lidia, the owner, evokes the greens and blues of this Cuban beach, tropical fan included. Malibu offers views from a terrace. Isla de Aruba has seashells painted on the walls creating an unmistakably Caribbean atmosphere.

Mikasa is sited in a beautiful natural enclave with a desert landscapes and African airs, a little oasis with a fishing community just 200 meters from the beach Agua Amarga. Various houses with typical architecture of Andalusia comprise this complex, all white in color and very luminous. And while not very large, this hotel is very complete.
Guests may have their breakfast in the garden, go swimming in either of the two pools, have an anti-stress treatment in the SPA, play a game of tennis, drink a delicious cocktail on the terrace and dine at our restaurant that serves international cuisine. Mikasa is the ideal spot to spend a few days of rest and tranquility in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata.
Quality and Savoir faire We had a booking for a villa with capacity for 6 people at Mikasa Suites & Spa (Agua Amarga, Almeria) for a week (6 to 13 August) . After driving 1,000 km we arrived at Mikasa by 18.30. We (4 people) were accompanied to the apartment by the manager/owner who showed us the installations before giving us the keys. Unfortunately, our "stay" started off as a disaster! When emptying the car he realised that we had a cat with us and told us that animals were not admitted in any case (this info is omitted in their website and not mentioned in their rules of admission). After a discussion at the front door we asked for solutions and he just offered to give us the money back. We told him that we started our holidays and we didn't want the money back as solution. He just didn't care and we were forced to leave in a hurry in order to try to find a place where to sleep at least that night -difficult task taking into account season period-. It really was the worst experience for all the family, hoping to get good holidays in a good place after an exhausting year. As we had to leave the place I can't speak about accommodation but I admit it looked well done. Nevertheless, we very much disliked the way we were treated and we will NEVER return to this hotel again. With behaviours like that you realise that the quality or comfort of accommodations is not enough if behind there is not a 'Savoir faire', a total quality aptitude: Quality and/or customer service is not shown just because decoration/service is done by a designer and sofas are real leather and not skay. It's something else, first a philosophy to become later a permanent business strategy. We must not forget that we are dealing with people. And I speak not from the belief that the client 'is always right'.
